Originally scored for tenor solo, mixed chorus, and orchestra,
this marvelous psalm setting by Liszt exhibits skillful use of
thematic transformation, like many of his other works from the
same period. The many sections within this piece are bound
together by related motives and well-written transitions.
More importantly, Liszt had taken great care in setting his
music to the textemotions from grief to joy are
expressed in the utmost musical way. This transcription makes
the beauty of this piece available to the advanced pianist.

REVIEWS
"[Sato's] transcription of Liszt's Psalm XIII ...
makes an effective concert piece, at once pianistically
idiomatic and dramatically coherent.... The result is a
gripping 20 minutes of music ... which you might have mistaken
for one of Liszt's lost masterpieces for piano in this
remarkable (and, happily, very playable) transcription by
Sato."
John Salmon, Piano & Keyboard,
January/February 1998
